How to not succeed
Posted by multippt
I’m sure you have seen articles that tells you how to succeed. How about the reverse? Let us tell you how…
Being too practical
It’s common to see people making things for it’s practical pupose. Things are made just for it’s function. However, if you are too practical, you tend to limit yourself to the box you are concealed in. Come on, it’s not like every lamp post must work like a lamp post right? Practicability is good in a way, that you won’t go over the boundaries and do all sorts of weird stuff. But, if you overdo it, you won’t get very far. If you aren’t so practical, maybe you would kick up on your creativity area a little bit more. So maybe next time you should pay more attention to the nonsense that other people say, who knows, maybe their crap is worth more than it’s value.
Going for overkill
Sometimes people might like doing so much of a thing they go pass their limit and reach the stage known as “overkill”. It can apply to studying (yes, there are cases where people study 24/7), chores, gaming, hobby… No, over-working doesn’t lead to overdrive (gee… now I’m trashing in the FFX area…), it leads to overkill. Lets see how it works. Let us say worker A is doing the norm, while worker B is putting in a lot more effort than what is needed. Worker A and B finishes the job at the same time, but the difference? Worker B ends up wasting more resources than he needs to. Yeah, I know it’s great to put in a lot of effort into something, but putting in too much effort leads to a wastage in resources, something that you have a limit on.
Never copying some-one’s work before
It’s nice to be original. In fact, what you see today came from original ideas. However, it’s about time people start learning from others and expand it. Ever noticed that the ones who “copy” from others often tends to be the winners, leaving the pioneers struggling? Well, when I meant by copying, I don’t mean the copy-and-paste method (the method that most people is fond). What I meant was that, “copying” from someone else AND adding features to it will increase the chances of you getting the lead. Yeah, I heard about some “How to be successful” articles saying you shouldn’t be (X+1) when somebody is X. Well, have you heard about (X+n)? Adding ALOT of features to something you learnt from some-other-person, would definitely be worthwhile. When you combine your creativity and some one else’s product, you get a mixture with immense potential.
Follow the crowd
It’s so common to see others follow other people’s opinion (and even actions), and that they may feel it’s their duty to ”follow” the flow. Yeah, it’s nice to see sheeps following the shepherd, but we are NOT sheep. It’s about time more people become shepherds leaders to lead other people. Leaders are what power the economy (and the world). And what is the most amazing thing? Everyone is being lead by something. Who said leaders have to be people (okay, maybe it’s not for the definition part, but for the metaphorical part)? Having your own ideas (and ideals) to lead you would make you stand out from the rest (rather than you completely following other peoples ideas and ideals).
