‘Storm’ worm hits the net

Yet another virus notice! A ’storm’ worm is on a rampage just hours ago, and has infected hundreds of thousands of computers. This trojan horse is usually installed once a person opens a rigged email’s (in this case, usually entitiled “230 dead as storm batters Europe”) attachment. This trojan could allow the creator of the trojan horse worm to control your computer without your knowledge (probably with the intention of spamming).

This email is quite timely, since the storm is probably still ongoing in Europe (though, the storm actually kills lesser than 200 people). Note that most anti-virus programmes may not be able to detect the malicious file (unless your Email provider filters out *.exe attachments).

There are other variations of this email message (with different subject titles, though they seem similar to headlines of news stories), containing the similar malicious attachment.

This trojan horse is targeted at Windows systems (it doesn’t work on Mac OSX, Linux, etc.).
