Homemade “Error” stickers deface Windows Vista ads

Posted by multippt

Windows Vista defaced adsWhile there are many posters and advertisements promoting the “Wow” Windows Vista has to offer, there are sure some people who would want to make use of this opportunity, to turn it’s ads back against itself. One individual has done the liberty of creating some nice stickers (a mock image of an error message that says “Operation Completed Successfully”) that seemingly blend in with the Windows Vista “Wow” adverts.

You can download the “stickers” here. While it is humorous, it is advisable not to try out this stunt (unless you don’t mind the men-in-blue).

How to not succeed

Posted by multippt

I’m sure you have seen articles that tells you how to succeed. How about the reverse? Let us tell you how…

Being too practical

It’s common to see people making things for it’s practical pupose. Things are made just for it’s function. However, if you are too practical, you tend to limit yourself to the box you are concealed in. Come on, it’s not like every lamp post must work like a lamp post right? Practicability is good in a way, that you won’t go over the boundaries and do all sorts of weird stuff. But, if you overdo it, you won’t get very far. If you aren’t so practical, maybe you would kick up on your creativity area a little bit more. So maybe next time you should pay more attention to the nonsense that other people say, who knows, maybe their crap is worth more than it’s value.

Going for overkill

Sometimes people might like doing so much of a thing they go pass their limit and reach the stage known as “overkill”. It can apply to studying (yes, there are cases where people study 24/7), chores, gaming, hobby… No, over-working doesn’t lead to overdrive (gee… now I’m trashing in the FFX area…), it leads to overkill. Lets see how it works. Let us say worker A is doing the norm, while worker B is putting in a lot more effort than what is needed. Worker A and B finishes the job at the same time, but the difference? Worker B ends up wasting more resources than he needs to. Yeah, I know it’s great to put in a lot of effort into something, but putting in too much effort leads to a wastage in resources, something that you have a limit on.

Never copying some-one’s work before

It’s nice to be original. In fact, what you see today came from original ideas. However, it’s about time people start learning from others and expand it. Ever noticed that the ones who “copy” from others often tends to be the winners, leaving the pioneers struggling? Well, when I meant by copying, I don’t mean the copy-and-paste method (the method that most people is fond). What I meant was that, “copying” from someone else AND adding features to it will increase the chances of you getting the lead. Yeah, I heard about some “How to be successful” articles saying you shouldn’t be (X+1) when somebody is X. Well, have you heard about (X+n)? Adding ALOT of features to something you learnt from some-other-person, would definitely be worthwhile. When you combine your creativity and some one else’s product, you get a mixture with immense potential.

Follow the crowd

It’s so common to see others follow other people’s opinion (and even actions), and that they may feel it’s their duty to ”follow” the flow. Yeah, it’s nice to see sheeps following the shepherd, but we are NOT sheep. It’s about time more people become shepherds leaders to lead other people. Leaders are what power the economy (and the world). And what is the most amazing thing? Everyone is being lead by something. Who said leaders have to be people (okay, maybe it’s not for the definition part, but for the metaphorical part)? Having your own ideas (and ideals) to lead you would make you stand out from the rest (rather than you completely following other peoples ideas and ideals).

HD DVD outsold Blu-ray 4 to 1 last year…in England

Posted by signup

HD DVD might have lost the sales lead in the U.S. but like many acts that struggle for acceptance domestically, it can take solace in knowing that it’s still topping European charts…for now. HDTV Org reports that UK figures show HD DVD outsold Blu-ray 4 to 1 in the period leading up to Christmas last year, helped by the fact that the Xbox 360 HD DVD drive was by far the most easily available HD player on the market. Unlike U.S. charts which have only provided ratios and no specific numbers, the British figures show just how small the market is at this point, with 8,200 HD DVD movies sold to Blu-ray’s 1,834. We’ll keep an eye on the market to see how it is affected by the launch of standalone players and the PlayStation 3 in March, and how well that tips the scales proportionally towards Blu-ray and how much total sales increase in general.

Windows Vista images that didn’t made it

Posted by multippt

There were thousands of photos submitted to Microsoft (during the Microsoft Photoshoot in 2005-2006). Out of these, only a few made it through to the final product - Windows Vista.

If you think that the Windows Vista wallpapers were pretty nice, you should give credit to the authors of some of these photos, by seeing their other photo shoots that didn’t get selected.

January NPD Numbers Give Nintendo The Lead

Posted by signup

Nintendo walked away with the console sales lead in January in the U.S., according to data released by the NPD Group. The company sold 435,000 Wii consoles in the month, far ahead of its rivals.

Sony’s PlayStation 2 came in second, selling 299,352 consoles during January. That beat out Microsoft’s 294,000 Xbox 360 consoles sold. For the next-generation console, Sony still suffered from supply shortages, selling only 243,554 PlayStation 3 consoles.

Of course, this all seems out of whack. Conventional wisdom would have put Nintendo in last place in the console battle. Microsoft ought to be selling a lot more consoles in its second year. And the PS 2 should be dropping off a cliff as the PS 3 rockets upward.

The PS 2 and the Wii are clearly appealing to the folks on a budget. The PS 3 has a lot of problems being appealing at its current price. And if I were Microsoft, I would start thinking about a price cut. I don’t expect one now that they have reduced their estimates for the fiscal year. But this is getting to be very interesting.

Sony (NYSE: SNE) Latest News about Sony plans to offer a video download service for its PlayStation 3 Latest News about PlayStation 3 (PS3) gaming console, Phil Harrison, president of Sony’s worldwide studios division, said in a recently published interview.

The media company’s long-range vision for the PS3 includes the download, storage and playback of high-definition movies and TV programs.

In an interview with gaming industry publication 1up, Harrison said Sony made a “significant investment” to support the vision of the PS3 as a hub of entertainment content. “It was absolutely the right thing to do,” he added.

Sony did not put a time frame on the full availability of the video download service — Harrison’s comments may be aimed at sparking sales Download 17 Rules of the Road for CRM. of the PS3, which, as one of the costliest gaming consoles available, has been outsold in many markets by Microsoft’s (Nasdaq: MSFT) Latest News about Microsoft Xbox 360 Latest News about Xbox 360, Nintendo’s Latest News about Nintendo Wii Latest News about Wii and even Sony’s own PlayStation 2 Latest News about PlayStation 2 (PS2).
Boosting the PS3

According to data from NPD Group, the PS2 console outsold the PS3 in December in the U.S. by a two-to-one margin, emerging as the holiday season’s top-selling gaming device.

The addition of a video download option will likely help Sony portray the PS3 as a multifunction device that can serve as the epicenter of a home entertainment system Back up your business with HP’s ProLiant ML150 Server - just $1,299.. This could help prompt consumers to pay the console’s nearly US$600 price tag.

In addition, the new download service may well compete directly with Apple’s (Nasdaq: AAPL) Latest News about Apple iTunes Music Store and that company’s ambitions to also become a hub of the digital living room of the future.

Though Microsoft has a head start over Sony, having already rolled out its Xbox Live video service, the PS3 could offer users the ability to purchase video content outright because of the PS3’s relatively large hard drive. Sony began building increasingly high-capacity hard drives into the PS3 from the start, with some models providing up to 60 GB of storage space.

Both the Xbox and the PS3 can play DVDs and allow users to go head-to-head with other gamers via the Internet Free How-To Guide for Small Business Web Strategies - from domain name selection to site promotion..

Sony has already begun to roll out a service that enables users to download and view movies on its PlayStation Portable, or PSP. This feature makes the PSP more of a direct competitor to Apple’s iPod.
Supercomputer on the Cheap

When the PS3 was released last year, Sony’s decision to build it using high-end components was met with derision in the gaming community. However, re-looking at the PS3 as a home-media hub could validate Sony’s move as well as the unit’s expensive price compared to Microsoft and Nintendo offerings.

Buyers of the PS3 have been getting “a supercomputer Latest News about supercomputer at entry-level PC price,” said iSuppli analyst Andrew Rassweiler. “One of the reason the PS3 is so costly to produce is because it has incredible processing power.”

AOL Say: Don’t Buy A PS3

Posted by signup

As if the Playstation 3 hasn’t had enough bad press recently, AOL have decided to compile a list of five gadgets you would be better off not buying (for the time being at least), and Sony’s latest home console has come in at number two.

Why? Well although AOL admit that the “system’s initial bugs (games freezing and problems with set up) appear to be fixed thanks to a recent upgrade” they still believe that “there are a limited number of new games available and the system carries a steep price tag.”

Fear not, though – AOL have the answer, buy an Xbox 360 or Nintendo Wii!

“If you’re simply looking for a fun game system, you can find a Nintendo Wii (try eBay) or Xbox for around $400. You could also simply wait for more PS3 games or for the system itself to come down in price.”

Also on the list are High Definition DVD players (at number one no less), meaning Sony essentially occupy both the top spots with a single machine. Further down at number four is Windows Vista thanks to an apparent lack of real benefits for upgrading if you already have a stable operating system.

Do you agree with AOL’s conclusions? We want to know what you think, is the PS3 really such a bad investment at the current time, or are the Time Warner company being unfair?
