New PSP exploit… works on firmwares up to 3.03

Posted by multippt

Noobz has just found a way to run homebrew code on the anti-homebrew official firmware, 3.03. Well, guess what? This exploit runs via GTA: Liberty City Stories, using a completely identical method to that of the previous exploit that ran up to 2.60 (yes… remember the game-save exploit by Edison_Carter?). Well, it seems the exploit wasn’t patched up thoroughly, and that this old exploit can be used to run homebrew all firmwares (up to 3.03).

Note that this exploit can only be run from the (old) unpatched version of GTA: Liberty City Stories (new copies sold now are already patched). To use this exploit, simply run the special gamesave and voila, you will see custom code being run.

Do expect a downgrader for the 3.03 PSP, since this exploit do give kernel access (via Team C+D’s special exploit).

PSP custom firmware 3.03 OE-C released!

Posted by multippt

It’s only been a short time since Dark_Alex released his latest custom firmware. Now, here comes custom firmware 3.03 OE-C! Of course, an update obviously has new features, so here is the changelog:
-AVC video bit-rate limit patched.
-Speed of custom firmware boot is approximately 3 seconds faster than previous custom firmwares
-CPU speed of XMB (main menu) can be changed*
-Wifi can now work at an over-clocked speed (333 Mhz)
-Flash 0 and 1 access via USB (from recovery menu)*
-PSP isos (at the special iso folders) now acts like a normal memory stick game ([1]file size now shows properly in game information, [2]ISO ca be deleted via XMB)
-When formatting memory stick the GAME150, GAME303 and ISO folders will be created as well
-Even more fixes…

Anyway, this custom firmware can only be installed via a full install. Be sure to check the generated files for integrity! This custom firmware is not a product of Sony’s so install it at your own risk.

The Wii-top (Wii laptop)

Posted by multippt

Wii LaptopEver felt that it was almost impossible to play your Wii outside your home? We found this article on Engadget, that shows off their creation. This Wii laptop is smaller than the Wii itself, and comes with a lcd screen too! And it definately works too. Don’t forget, Engadget made a simlar console-laptop hybrid, like the Xbox360 laptop. These laptops are not for sale (since they are not made by Nintendo [Wii] nor Microsoft [Xbox360]), though, you could make one yourself, since they are posting how-to tutorials on how to construct one.

So what’s next? A PS3 laptop?

‘Storm’ worm hits the net

Posted by multippt

Yet another virus notice! A ’storm’ worm is on a rampage just hours ago, and has infected hundreds of thousands of computers. This trojan horse is usually installed once a person opens a rigged email’s (in this case, usually entitiled “230 dead as storm batters Europe”) attachment. This trojan could allow the creator of the trojan horse worm to control your computer without your knowledge (probably with the intention of spamming).

This email is quite timely, since the storm is probably still ongoing in Europe (though, the storm actually kills lesser than 200 people). Note that most anti-virus programmes may not be able to detect the malicious file (unless your Email provider filters out *.exe attachments).

There are other variations of this email message (with different subject titles, though they seem similar to headlines of news stories), containing the similar malicious attachment.

This trojan horse is targeted at Windows systems (it doesn’t work on Mac OSX, Linux, etc.).

Yet another Google vulnerability

Posted by multippt

This is seriously bad news for Google, especially with already 3 serious vulnerabilities in its system found in the space of 1 month. Yes, they may have been quick to patch it up within hours of it being reported, but this might show that the hackers are evolving.

This vulnerability is one of the few Google’s XSS vulnerabilities reported. It allows a person to gain unauthorized access to your Google account (includes GMail, Blogger, etc.). Now that is serious! And that is not all… this vulnerability allows the hacker to steal cookies that can be used to hijack your account, and this can be done by visiting a rigged website. Well, I guess you could use the phrase “No one’s going to steal my cookies!” (very bad pun unintended).

A possible precaution that not everyone wants to take to avoid the problem is to log off your account while viewing other websites.

Via zdnet (Don’t worry, they *probably* won’t steal your account)

Did anyone say 3.03 OE-B?

Posted by multippt

Custom FirmwareOnce again, Dark_Alex magically appears (and concludes that Dark_Alex is the homebrew god)… and announces the release of the PSP custom firmware, 3.03 OE-B! Of course, we did say this was going to happen in days to come, but Dark_Alex manages to fulfill that rumor, by releasing it A DAY after the rumor start making its way to the blogosphere (or the internet).

The installation step is roughly the same as that of installing 3.03 OE-A’, and the update can ONLY be run from the PSP custom firmware 3.03 OE-A or 3.03 OE-A’ (recommended)

The changes (from 3.03 OE-A’) is as followed:
-MP4-AVC videos can be played at 480×272 resolution
-PSP isos picture fixed
-Some (CPU) speed functions were changed
-Changes in structure of the firmware to allow more free RAM in game mode.

Basically, it means that the rumor is definitely true. Well, now that 3.03 OE-B is out, what’s next? 3.03 OE-B’?

(By the way, looks like a reader at QJ.net beat me at Digg (I should have checked the front page, before rushing)… Oh well…, time for me to try again.)

Dark_Alex Magic - PSP custom firmware 3.03 OE-A’ (REV 2) released

Posted by multippt

Custom FirmwareDark_Alex has once again done his magic once more (again, but in a good way). Just after days of releasing his custom firmware 3.03 OE-A, he just released 3.03 OE-A’. This firmware can be installed via 3.03 OE-A.

In case you have not tried updating any custom firmwares (like 2.71 SE-A) before, let us go through the steps for doing so:
1)Put the oe_a2update folders into the appropriate game folder (”PSP/GAME” folder in PSP official firmware 1.50, or usually “PSP/GAME150″ in a PSP custom firmware [like 2.71 SE, 3.02 OE or 3.03 OE])
2)Run the application from the PSP (it MUST be running the custom firmware 3.03 OE-A)
3)The application should update your PSP to custom firmware 3.03 OE-A’

The changes are as followed:
-CPU clock selection for PSP games
-Various fixes for the recovery menu
-Fixes for part of the UMD emulation
