PSP official firmware 3.03 decrypted

Posted by multippt

Team C+D, the founder of the firmware 2.80 kernal mode exploit, has found a way to decrypt the latest firmware, 3.03. Though, the decrypted dump does have slight problems being emulated in Devhook.

What a nice Christmas gift brought by Team C+D on Christmas Eve! Hopefully, a new version of the firmware emulation application would be able to emulate the latest firmware, 3.03.

PSP firmware 2.80 kernel access exploit found

Posted by multippt

Team C+D recently discovered a way of running homebrew applications with kernel access on firmware 2.80. Previously, there was no known way of running homebrew applications on PSP firmware 2.80, and that homebrew applications will only run on user mode on the PSP. This exploit runs on the currently available TIFF exploit on the PSP. At the moment, only a proof of concept of the new exploit is available. This “proof-of-concept” application dumps the firmware of the PSP to the memory stick

This exploit meant that it is possible that a PSP firmware downgrader for firmware 2.80 may emerge in the near future. Kernel access also meant greater support for more homebrew applications, especially those which run in kernal mode.

Scammers take emails hostage

Posted by multippt

A hotmail user returns home and accesses his email account, only to find that the account was flushed clean, except for a single email that demanded payment for the return of all email messages and all contacts in the address book. The email was written (poorly) in spanish. The affected user previously accessed the account from a cyber-cafe.

While there are (rare) multiple cases of cyberextortion, this is taking things to a new level. Previous cases of cyber extortion includes malicious acts on one’s data, which include the execution of malicious software (sometimes known as “ransomware”) that may encrypt the contents of certain private files. They would then request “payment” to decrypt the files, and if the victim refuses to pay, the files would be deleted.

With the internet becoming more popular for phishers and even scammers, one must take precautions in protecting their private information, especially their password.

Windows Vista activation cracked

Posted by multippt

Recently, several hackers have found alternative ways of activating the corporate version of Windows Vista. A file has been distributed online that contains a VMware machine (a virtual machine) which consist of a KMS (Key Management Service) server.

A KMS server is needed to activate copies of Windows Vista (for businesses) to allow the operating system to be used. The official KMS server is usually given to companies that have 25 or more computers running Windows Vista. The copy will need to be reactivated every 6 months in order to continue to use the system.

Of course, please do not use the circulated file to illegally activate a copy of Windows Vista.
